There is something immediately familiar about terracotta: it is the colour of old tomettes, sun-drenched tiled roofs and hand-shaped pottery. Choosing a plain terracotta or ochre cement tile brings this mineral memory into a contemporary interior without ever falling into nostalgic reconstruction. It is an architect's colour in the fullest sense: it does not decorate a room, it warms its underlying atmosphere and sets an almost tangible light, that of Mediterranean houses where stone and terracotta have conversed with the sun for centuries.

At Cimenterie de la Tour, every plain terracotta or ochre cement tile is handmade using a centuries-old cold-pressing process that gives the material depth of colour and slight variations from one tile to the next, like traditional terracotta. This authenticity allows the terracotta and ochre palette to fit into a Provençal farmhouse renovation as well as a contemporary apartment in search of southern warmth.

Our range opens with light, bright shades such as salmon, which evokes terracotta fresh from the kiln, still pinkish. On the floor of a kitchen or living room bathed in natural light, a salmon tile creates a soft, enveloping atmosphere, particularly sought-after in interiors that favour natural materials such as linen, rattan or light wood. It is a shade that beautifully catches the morning light, with a warmth that never becomes garish.

Yellow ochre and light ochre, brighter, recall the façades of villages in the Luberon or Tuscany. Laid across an entrance or open-plan kitchen, they instantly create a feeling of sunshine, even in the least sunny rooms. It is a colour particularly appreciated for warming north-facing interiors, where it elegantly makes up for the lack of natural light.

Brick brown and terracotta brown, deeper, evoke the old floors of farmhouses and characterful homes. Laid across a living or dining room, they create a lived-in, reassuring, almost timeless atmosphere. It is a shade that goes naturally with raw wood, wrought iron and natural stone, for interiors with an extra touch of soul.

Between these shades, our collection offers intermediate tones such as peach, which softens the terracotta palette without giving up its warmth. This shade, both pinkish and golden, pairs beautifully with white walls or pastel tones, for a soft, bright atmosphere particularly sought-after in bedrooms or bathrooms looking for a cocooning feel. It also allows subtle tone-on-tone compositions: pairing a peach plain tile with a deeper salmon creates delicate visual depth without ever breaking the overall harmony.

The richness of our terracotta and ochre range also comes through five shapes available for every shade. The square, the historic cement tile format, is perfect for a continuous layout that lets the colour and its depth express themselves fully, like traditional terracotta floors. The hexagon, with its organic outline, softens the lines of a room and subtly recalls old tomettes while adding a resolutely contemporary touch.

The octagon, often combined with a small contrasting tile at its intersection, directly evokes the charm of the floors of grand houses in the south of France, in ochre as well as brick. The longer rectangle structures a hallway or entrance by accentuating its length, in a shade reminiscent of traditionally laid bricks. Finally, the diamond brings a stronger graphic dynamism, particularly sought-after for friezes or chevron compositions that enhance the terracotta material.

Working with plain terracotta and ochre cement tiles means choosing a resolutely warm atmosphere, that of southern interiors that know how to capture and hold the light. In a kitchen, an ochre or salmon tile naturally accompanies a zellige splashback and light wood fronts, for an atmosphere reminiscent of Mediterranean holiday homes. In a living room, a brick or terracotta brown creates a lived-in, warm atmosphere alongside solid wood furniture and wrought iron.

These earthy shades also age very well: unlike bright colours, the terracotta and ochre palette moves through fashions without ever looking dated, making it a particularly sound choice for renovation projects seeking aesthetic continuity with the existing architecture.

Designing a floor in plain terracotta and ochre cement tiles requires a careful eye for shades and how they interact with the natural light in your room. Our team supports you at every stage: advice on combining shades and shapes, physical samples so you can judge the material in real conditions, and technical recommendations on the right installation for your project. Our showroom in Lavérune also lets you discover our projects in situ and talk directly with our advisers.

Whether you are considering an entirely ochre floor, a terracotta tone-on-tone or a composition mixing several shapes, our range of plain terracotta and ochre cement tiles gives you the raw material for a warm, bright and lasting interior.
